The Pella High School boys’ and girls’ bowling teams concluded their 2020-21 seasons this week at their respective state qualifying meets.
Both meets were held at Great Escape in Pleasant Hill. The Lady Dutch bowled on Tuesday, placing 4th out of 5 teams, and the Dutch bowled on Wednesday, coming in 6th in their 6-team field.
For the girls, PHS rolled a 1,350 in the individual games, and a 710 in the Baker format games. That was about 570 pins less than the eventual team champions from Newton High School. Bondurant-Farrar finished in second. Click HERE for full results.
In the boys’ meet, the Dutch rolled a 1,566 in the individual games and a 742 in the Baker games. Their total pins was more than 900 less than eventual team champion Ottumwa. Bondurant-Farrar came in second place. Click HERE for full results.
Both meets were the second time in less than a week PHS had bowled in Pleasant Hill. The Two Rivers Conference meet was also held at Great Escape. Both teams finished in 7th, while Pella Christian High School came in 8th place. Newton won the girls’ title, while Bondurant-Farrar took the boys’ championship.
No individual bowlers qualified for their respective state meets. The Lady Dutch were led by Sierra Vander Weerdt, who rolled a 295 over her 2 games, and Kaina Geetings, who posted a 287. Cutoff for the Top 10 at the qualifying meet was a 306.
The Dutch were led by Jayden Divelbiss, who posted a 338, and Nathan Grandia, who rolled a 328. Cutoff for the Top 10 at the qualifying meet was a 395.
