Local Students Selected for All-State Music

Several students at Pella High School and Pella Christian have been selected for All-State music honors this year.

According to the Iowa High School Music Association, the following students at Pella High School were selected:

  • Erin Mathes, B-flat Clarinet
  • Dora Roorda, Trumpet
  • Morgan Uitermarkt, Trombone
  • Luci Laidlaw, Violin
  • Julia Smart, Viola
  • McCaffrey Brandt, String Bass
  • Mason Holland, Bass (Vocal)

Laidlaw, Smart, and Brandt are all two-time qualifiers for All-State. Additionally, the following students from Pella Christian High School were also selected:

  • Nia Hoekstra, Contra Clarinet
  • Carson Breon, Tenor (Vocal)

Hoekstra is a three-time All-Stater, while Breon has qualified each of the four years of his high school career.

Although All-State qualifiers typically perform at a music festival hosted by Iowa State University, this year’s event has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Next year’s festival, scheduled for Nov. 18-20, 2021, will be the 75th anniversary festival.
