Several students at Pella High School and Pella Christian have been selected for All-State music honors this year.
According to the Iowa High School Music Association, the following students at Pella High School were selected:
- Erin Mathes, B-flat Clarinet
- Dora Roorda, Trumpet
- Morgan Uitermarkt, Trombone
- Luci Laidlaw, Violin
- Julia Smart, Viola
- McCaffrey Brandt, String Bass
- Mason Holland, Bass (Vocal)
Laidlaw, Smart, and Brandt are all two-time qualifiers for All-State. Additionally, the following students from Pella Christian High School were also selected:
- Nia Hoekstra, Contra Clarinet
- Carson Breon, Tenor (Vocal)
Hoekstra is a three-time All-Stater, while Breon has qualified each of the four years of his high school career.
Although All-State qualifiers typically perform at a music festival hosted by Iowa State University, this year’s event has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Next year’s festival, scheduled for Nov. 18-20, 2021, will be the 75th anniversary festival.
